On Tuesday, 23rd January, the Costa Adeje representatives held a meeting with almost 500 travel agents and tour operators from the top national companies as part of the work agenda at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) in Madrid. The meeting took place at the Eurostar Madrid Towers Hotel, promoted by Hosteltur and sponsored by Adeje Town Hall.

The mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, has previewed the new promotional video of the destination that will be presented to the public in Madrid on Thursday. Rodriguez Fraga, who thanked the agents for their work in bringing tourists to the islands and to Adeje, stressed in his speech that "travel agencies are the most important and fundamental intermediary element of the tourism industry. Their annual turnover is in the billions and they are some of the most important players in the sector.

"For a destination like ours meetings with the operators who move most of the national tourism are essential because we can outline the new challenges we are facing and how we intend to improve our destination, our offer, and infrastructure," said the mayor who acknowledged that improving tourism figures from Spain remains an important objective for Costa Adeje and for all Canarian destinations, "hence the importance of having been able to participate in this meeting where national agents have been protagonists," he added.

The Adeje tourism councillor  Patricia Paulsen Fölling was on hand to welcome those present and, in her first year in the job, was available to talk to all those in the sector, inviting them to "get to know Costa Adeje on a daily basis and the changes we have been promoting in recent years ".

The meeting was attended by professionals and managers of leading players in the sector such as Iberia, Mundiplan, Air Europa, W2M, TUI, Travelplan, Soltour and Jumbo Tour Gourmet, among many others. They were all grateful for the involvement of Adeje in this meeting and stressed the importance of Costa Adeje as a leading destination with its excellent year-round offer.

Agenda

Costa Adeje's intense work agenda at Fitur began on Tuesday morning with the setting up of the stand which it shares with other destinations under the umbrella of the Costa Adeje Association of Tourist Municipalities. During the morning, the Adeje delegation, headed by the mayor and the tourism councillor attended the Exceltur Forum which this year is entitled “el turismo que todos queremos” (the tourism we all want). The Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Zurab Pololikashvili, together with the President of Exceltur, Gabriel Escarré and the Spanish Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, among other authorities, opened the forum.

The meeting, for professionals in the industry, was divided into different thematic areas from early in the morning until late at night. Some of the debates focused on analysing the new global tourism realities; how the common objective should be to enhance the image of tourism; or unravelling the major macroeconomic trends that will mark tourism in 2024.

Costa Adeje's agenda at Fitur continues this Wednesday with the presentation of the AMTC at 1pm at the Association's own stand in the Canary Islands Pavilion at IFEMA. Costa Adeje will also attend the official presentation of the Canary Islands at 11am, as well as the visit of H.M. King Felipe VI to the Spanish pavilion. Wednesday afternoon will be devoted to FiturTech where Costa Adeje will present a panel and attend working meetings with relevant agents from the tourism sector interested in investing in the destination.

On Thursday it will be time to present the lines of work set out for the Costa Adeje destination over the coming years, as the promotional material and campaign for 2024. This will take place at 2.30pm at the AMTC stand. Earlier that day the Adeje team will also attend the traditional presentation of the Rallye Villa de Adeje, at 11:30 at the CICAR stand, as well as the presentation of a new Binter magazine at 1pm.  Later on the mayor will be at the AMT 2024 awards ceremony at the FiturTech stand.

Friday's agenda will be marked by work meetings and visits by the political-technical team to some of the stands of companies in the sector which have investments in Costa Adeje. At the weekend, the trade fair opens to the general public, so promoting the destination and attracting visitors will be the main objective.
