Adeje’s mayor has published details of the structure of the new council, with the focus firmly on the people of the borough

The structure sees the council continue with seven umbrella-areas, with some changes internally and in personnel

Adeje mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga today announced the structure of the new council for the 2023-2027 period of local government. The council consolidates operating with seven major departments, the focus being on looking after the people of the borough
 
“The model of local government we created a number of years ago has been a success, and we think this is the best way to continue, with a number of key work axes, albeit with some new variations. The structure works to allow the council offer the best possible local government services to the people of Adeje.  We have a top team, we have a vocation to deliver public service, and projects, and we will work tirelessly over the next four years”, assured the mayor. 
 
The seven main council areas will now be organised in the following manner: 
“Área de Buen Gobierno, Hacienda e Innovación”/Good governance, finance and innovation, under the responsabilidad of Epifanio Díaz Hernandez. The Department will centralise public services, municipal works, budget proposals, modernisation, the public offices, housing, EMSA (municipal services) and tax. As part of this department councillor Carmen Lucía Rodriguez del Toro will take control of innovation, modernisation, citizen attention services and the School of Music. 
 
“Seguridad”/Security will also now incorporate economic activity into its ambit under the responsibility of Mercedes Vargas Delgado.  The department will also include the primary sector, the Farmers market, transport, mobility, traffic, mobility and DAVIA.  Councillor Alberto Álverez Jiménez will take charge of the areas of economic development and employment. 
 
“Cultura, Deportes, Educación y Universidades”/Culture, sports, education and universities will be the responsibility of Adolfo Alonso Ferrera with new councillor Coraima Afonso Navarro, who will be in charge of educational matters and the municipal infants school.  This department will also have charge of fiestas, public participation and libraries
 
“Turismo”/Tourism will also include responsibility for sustainability and be under new councillor 
Patricia Paulsen Folling. This Department will also be in charge of openings, public events, beaches and the environment
 
 
“Presidencia y Planificación del Territorio”/Presidency and Territorial Planning will be run by councillor Manuel Luis Méndez Martín, who will continue his work in strategic planning and take responsibility for sanctions, community development and communications.  Working with him will be councillor Desiderio Afonso Ruiz who assumes responsibility for institutional relations, protocol, and heritage
.
 
“Salud, Calidad de Vida y Bienestar Animal”/Health, quality of life, and animal welfare will be under the care of councillor Esther Rivero Vargas and there are some changes to the department which will now incorporate the seniors area. Equality now incorporates diversity, and the management of the borough’s cemetery is also now under this department. Councillor José Antonio López Delgado will have responsibility for equality, diversity, and animal welfare.
 
The seventh department, under councillor Raqual Rodríguez Alonso is “Bienestar Comunitario y Cohesión Social”/Community Welfare and Social Cohesion.  This will incorporate social services, youth, attention for special needs individuals, and children and families. 
 
In the coming days, “as soon as possible”, says the mayor, there will be a council meeting to formalise the new departments and councillor designations.  “All of these areas of government have important challenges, some new, some as a result of on-going projects and others that are still stalled due to the pandemic….our work is to focus on the way and quality of life of our residents, making sure our public services are of top quality, prioritising attention to the people of Adeje and their needs, in particular to those most in need”.
