The Adeje school for second opportunities, the E2O, continues to help young people

From the start of the project they have helped 235 people

The ‘E2O’, the Adeje school for second opportunities, is running for the second year, working with young people between the ages of 16 and 29, who left their studies at an early age, are unemployed or on the verge of falling into social exclusion. Since the beginning of the initiative, in October 2021, they have worked with 235 individuals, and are currently helping 185 young Adeje students, 121 men and 64 women.

During the opening of this year’s course councillor for economic development, Raquel Rodríguez Alonso explained that “the aim of the programme is to help and motivate young people in Adeje through individual assessment, helping them identify their work and training preferences, assisting them in a return to full time education if they abandoned their studies prematurely. There are parallel courses in positive use of social networks which help the students continue in the programme”.

Looking at the training side, 38 people have returned to full time education – secondary school and Bachillerato level, and others have passed competency and certificate exams. Of those who are now working on finding jobs, many are continuing to take part in educational activities. They can also take advantage of a ‘pre-work’ option which allows them try out different jobs to see where their vocational preferences may lie.

The project was born out of a collaboration between the Adeje council, who finance the programme, and the Don Bosco foundation. The main aim is to improve the integration and work potential for young people between the ages of 19 and 29 who are at risk of social and labour exclusion. The programme follows the young participants until they do find work or return to education.

The programme works on four axis – innovative training through personalised assessments and itineraries, strengthening of basic and work competency, practical experience in the world of work, and assistance in the social sphere.
