The alternative training programme for employment for young people, the PFAE-GJ has completed a training session in psychological first aid. During the training days the students learned about emergency protocols and techniques in assisting in accident and emergency situations.  The programme was backed by the Adeje department of economic development under Councillor Raquel Rodríguez Alonso, in partnership with the Canarian Employment Service.

The training began with a talk on working as auxiliary first responders in situations with the arrival of immigrants, given by Raquel F Bouza, director of resources for 112 Tenerife (the emergency call number), who is also a co-ordinator in aquatic lifesaving, and an employment trainer. Following the talk there were practical exercises in the CDTCA using simulations, with the assistance of ambulance staff too.

The Adeje volunteer fire station was also a location for training with practical activities on how to deal with a missing child, a situation requiring the declaration of an emergency and the activation of various resources.  The objective was to give students the change to practise and learn and work with professionals from different branches of the emergency services.

During all sessions the sign language teacher Alejandro Plasencia was assisting, and students were also obliged to practise dealing with individuals with hearing difficulties during emergency situations.  Also assisting were members of different lifeguard associations.
