Recently Adeje mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga and the councillor for special needs José Antonio López Delgado, held a meeting with María Ángeles Perdomo and Carmen Delia Álamo, the mother superior and director of the education centre Acamán run by the hospital sisters.  The aim of the meeting was to design a partnership of collaboration to improve services on offer to those in Adeje with intellectual difficulties and/or acquired brain injuries.

The existing Adeje centre for special needs in Los Olivos is included in the agreement as a centre where a variety of resources are already available for those who need them in this part of the island.  The Acamán team expressed their gratitude for the commitment shown by the Adeje centre and the local government to all those with special needs.

During the meeting all present expressed their need for continuous care and resources for those who do suffer from some form of disability and for their families.  Adeje is also working to respond positively to requests for assistance in meeting some of the needs of uses of the Arona day-care centre, and has already been offering use of adapted materials on Torviscas Playa during the summer months.

The association has been working with persons with intellectual disabilities and ABIs in the Canary Islands for many years.  They have two centres, one in Geneto, in La Laguna, and one in Arona, which serves the population of the south of Tenerife. In recent years the centres have experienced an unprecedented rise in those seeking assistance.
