The Adeje council and ATELSAM have renewed their partnership during a meeting held recently in the Los Olivos centre for special needs individuals. ATELSAM is a non-profit association working to help people with mental health challenges.

Attending the meeting were the Adeje councillors for community welfare, Mercedes Vargas Delgado and for special needs José Antonio López Delgado, as well as ATELSAM director Ana Concepcíon and the communications director Laura Lima.

The Adeje representatives said “mental health is a very important issue for the council, and in fact the regional government’s mental services offices are based in the Adeje School for citizen participation. We are also in the middle of our ‘Mentalízate’ programme rolling out programmes for the public whose mental health has been affected by the pandemic – that programme is currently in the training phase but will soon be offering courses and practical assistance”.

Ana Concepción said she was tremendously satisfied with the meeting “given the excellent disposition shown by Adeje to work together and create synergies to benefit those with mental health problems in the borough”.

The main aim of the renewal of the partnership is to expand the range of services on offer in Adeje. ATELSAM has a centre in the Los Olivos building and a functional space where they can attend to professionals and volunteers who are working to offer their services to those with mental health challenges.  With the ‘Arco Programme’ people will find an open door to information, orientation and assessment in the area of mental health.
