The Adeje crisis cabinet headed up by the mayor Jose Miguel Rodríguez Fraga have met this morning, 23 July, following yesterday’s announcement by the regional government that the island of Tenerife is to go to level 4 as a result of rising Covid-19 cases. The local government have decided that, as well as maintaining the controls introduced last week, they will reinforce the disinfection and cleaning of public spaces and areas outside supermarkets, pharmacies, health centres, municipal buildings, etc. and any other zones that see heavy public footfall. The council have also decided to close playgrounds and sports installations that attract large numbers.
The mayor stated, “Level 4 is a health alert decreed by the regional government and implies increased restrictions and tougher measures, more complicated for everyone. Today more than ever I want to make a call out to all our residents to play their part. I know the situation is increasingly difficult and I know that you have already done so much, but without collective responsibility and individual commitment from each one of us, if we cannot stick to the basic rules of responsibility these restrictions won’t achieve anything. We have said this from day 1º - we get out of this situation only when we pull together”.
The council will continue the most recent decision too regarding the closure of beaches from 9pm and will have extra police on duty over the weekends controlling any after-hours and non-authorised gatherings.
All public cultural activates are suspended to continue to minimise contacts and slow down the rate of infection, which has risen to 327 cases today.
Again the council repeats the calls made during this pandemic for residents and visitors to behave responsibly. In particular they are asking young people and those who have been vaccinated to remember that they can still transmit the infection to others, who may be more vulnerable. Bearing this in mind people are asked to continue to use a facemask in public, even outdoors, and of course in indoor public spaces where it is mandatory. Social distancing, hand cleaning and respecting the limited capacity of zones is also required.
Adeje council is in permanent contact with island and regional authorities to keep up to date on any changes in the current situation and measures to work to halt the spread of Covid-19.
