The Adeje council departments of Education and Municipal Works and Services (under councillors María Clavijo Maza and Esther Rivero Vargas) have been outlining the plans in place to help schools welcome back pupils to the new and very different term time.   This includes the use of the team who last year helped children walk safely to school as safety monitors helping the school community get used to the new measures in place.

The monitors will help younger children in washing hands, maintaining safe distances.   The schools and the monitors will have hand gels in place and will also be working to help children and parents on the new rules regarding getting into the school buildings. They will be working in all the primary school centres – Armeñime, Las Torres, Los Olivos, Fañabe, Adeje Casco and Tijoco Bajo.   “We are making an extra effort to make sure the ‘back to school’ experience is as easy as possible, while we also have to ask the education community to act in a safe way to guarantee the health and safety of everyone”, commented the education councillor.

The councillors also recently visited all the public infants and primary schools to oversee the renovation work that has been taking place during the summer months. The council have spent over €100,000 on upgrades and improvements, all the schools have been painted, with new signalling, improvements to bathrooms for all students and staff, and repairs where needed.  “The work was carried out by people who are in one of our work-training schemes for those currently unemployed alongside borough professionals”, said the councillor for municipal works, adding that work would continue where it was needed throughout the year.

Members of the local gardening department have also made changes and improvements to green zones in the schools, electrical fittings have been checked and repaired too.

Primary schools begin term tomorrow, 15th September, and public secondary schools reopen on Wednesday, 16th September.
