The 'Comunidades Turísticas Circulares'/Circular tourism communities, promoted by Ashotel and Asaga Canarias, has already transformed more than 1,200 tonnes of bio-waste into 400 tonnes of biological compost. The project which began as a pilot scheme two years ago with six hotels in Adeje, and which is making good progress as a circular economy initiative in Tenerife, led by Ashotel and Asaga Canarias, has generated interest among political representatives from tjhe regional government and the Tenerife Cabildo as well as local councils, including Adeje.
Representatives from those bodies visited Finca del Balo this morning, land owned by the company Serviagroc, the ecological farm where biological compost is produced from bio-waste and hotel pruning waste from 17 hotel establishments to date. Both Fernando Clavijo, president of the Canary Islands, who was joined by Ana Dorta and José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, mayors of Guía de Isora and Adeje, and the councillor for the environment of the Tenerife Cabildo, Blanca Pérez, were able to see the project first hand, a project that has already converted more than 1,200 tonnes of bio-waste into some 400 tonnes of compost. They were joined by the presidents of Ashotel and Asaga, Jorge Marichal and Ángela Delgado, who showed the attendees how this circular tourist community works. Also in attendance were the regional heads of Tourism and the Primary Sector, Jéssica de León and Narvay Quintero, respectively, as well as other public representatives.
The project has the active involvement of 17 accommodation establishments associated with Ashotel, namely MYND Adeje, Tropical Park, Atlantic Holiday, Hard Rock Tenerife, RIU Buenavista, RIU Palace Tenerife, H10 Costa Adeje Palace, Guayarmina Princess, Coral Ocean View, Jardines de Nivaria, Royal Sunset Beach Club, Vincci La Plantación del Sur, Bahía Príncipe Sunlight Tenerife, Bahía del Duque, GF Gran Costa Adeje, Iberostar Bouganville Playa and HOVIMA Costa Adeje.
