Adopt a dog in Adeje!

The Adeje dog rescue centre might have the special friend you are looking for!

There is a pet rescue centre in Adeje that cares for and finds new homes for dogs that have been abandoned.

People interested in helping these animals can do so in several ways, either by working with them as a registered volunteer, or by adopting an animal. The centre has individualised spaces for about 35 dogs, who are cared for and well fed, with regular visits from veterinary staff who are in charge of administering the necessary treatment, whenever required by the animal.

Before adopting, people should keep in mind that having a pet is a big responsibility. "Certainly think of the delight they will bring to your life, but you also have to realise that adopting a pet means introducing a new member of the family into the home, a being you have to provide and care for," says the councillor responsible for the centre, José Antonio López Delgado.

To adopt a dog, first organise a visit to the centre (maximum of two people per visit) to meet the dogs there. Then you must fill out an adoption application and evaluation questionnaire and in a few days you will be told if the application is approved. Once it is, you pay the adoption fees and sign a contract. All adopted dogs are handed over with identification chips, and have been vaccinated and sterilised/neutered unless otherwise recommended by the veterinarian. Finally you will need to register your new pet on the Adeje animal census.

The centre is located on the TF-47 road, on the way to Armeñime, and just in front of the Punto Limpio and visits are usually arranged from Monday to Friday between 9am and 1pm, For more information you can visit the Adeje Town Hall website https://www.adeje.es/mascotas/mascotas-en-adopcion
