Members of the public can now apply to take part in the incredible annual street theatre performance

20 february 2024
The Adeje Passion Play, ‘La Pasión’ takes place on Good Friday, 29th March, for the 27th year, in Adeje’s town centre. Last year around 300 amateur and professional actors and actresses took part, along with the technical and logistical staff. This is a hugely important Adeje cultural event, and is performed along the Calle Grande, evoking the last moments of the life and death of Jesus Christ. This is open to everyone living in the area.

To sign up and take part in ‘La Pasión’, the town hall has set up an online registration form, docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeers8JrF-DEZhuHpoje1vD-0YUByv-nc2rHIL9zq6saWIvEQ/viewform
You can also register in person at the Adeje Cultural Centre or call 922 756 246.  Some Spanish would be required.

The Passion begins with a recreation of the arrival of Jesus on Palm Sunday, and ends with the crucifixion, the most significant scene of the entire performance, where we see the torturous journey of Jesus Christ, who, under the lashes of the Romans, says goodbye to his mother for the last time carrying his cross, and as he dies the performance in the comes to an end in the Plaza de España.

This staging of ‘La Pasión’ began as a small event organised by local residents in 1996 but over time has grown in stature and status, and is now a huge national event and tourist attraction, with thousands arriving to Adeje town to watch the performance, which begins at midday on Good Friday.  Many more watch the performance live on Canarian TV.
