The family of Dr. Pedro de las Casas Alonso donates his library collection to the Adeje Municipal Archive

This valuable legacy includes books on the Canary Islands, a 19th century encyclopaedia and archive material

The family of Dr. Pedro de las Casas Alonso, doctor and author of books on the history of Adeje, has donated a significant collection of books to the Adeje Municipal Archive. This valuable legacy includes books on the Canary Islands, a 19th century encyclopaedia and archive material, mainly newspaper clippings dealing with the history of Adeje.
 
The Mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, together with the Councillor for heritage, Desiderio Afonso Ruiz, met the family to sign a deed of donation in the Convento in the Calle Grande.  In his remarks, the mayor stressed the importance of the legacy of Dr. Pedro De las Casas in adding to our knowledge and understanding of the history of Adeje and the Canary Islands. He thanked the family for the generosity in donating the collection books and archive material which will be available for consultation in the municipal archives.
 
The family expressed their gratitude to the council for accepting the donation, highlighting the pride they feel in having their father's collection available for consultation in the municipal archive of their town. Attending the event were the sons and daughters of Dr. Pedro de las Casas Alonso: Pedro, Isabel, Beatriz, Daniel and Alejandro.
 
 
Following the signing, the act of handing over the collection took place in the Municipal Archive, in the presence of councillor Carmen Lucía Rodríguez del Toro. This valuable book and documentary collection, now part of the municipal heritage, offers a new window to explore the history of Adeje and the Canary Islands. The donation reflects the commitment of Dr. Pedro de las Casas to the community, who, throughout his life, excelled as a doctor, a pioneer in medical technology, and contributed significantly to the social and cultural development of the area.
 
Carmen Lucia Rodriguez del Toro stressed the importance of the addition to the municipal archive, stating that "this valuable collection will enrich our collections and help academic research and the public in general to explore more deeply the rich history of Adeje and the Canary Islands. The management of the archive is committed to preserving and making this heritage available for present and future generations”.
