Adeje’s senior citizens recently paid homage to Saint Ann/Santa Ana, their patron saint, but also to Saint Joachim (Ann and Joachim were the parents of Mary)  and the Blessed Virgin Mary.  During the event, attended by many from Adeje, the group also welcomed their new councillor, Esther Rivero Vargas.

The event was celebrated with a sung mass and a procession from the church to the Hermano Pedro plaza, also known as the seniors’ plaza, where their centre and the council office for their department are also located.

Adeje mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga was in attendance, and said, “this is a celebration of happiness, marking Santa Ana and San Joaquín, patron saints of grandparents.  Over generations grandparents have played an important role in the preservation and continuation of family histories and cultural heritage.  Their stories and life lessons connect us with our past, giving us a profound sense of who we are and where we come from.  Older people, with their accumulated experience and knowledge, have been an essential part of our personal growth and the construction of our society”.

For the new councillor for the area, Esther Rivero Vargas, “this is a very important day for Adeje’s seniors, who have this special devotion, and I make this promise too, that I will serve them to the highest level, always working to improve their quality of life.”

At the culmination of the liturgical act, there was a celebration and meal with music from the Toke Latino group.
