Dinosaurs, pirates and defending Adeje from the English - the Adeje Book fair will take you back in time…

The fair will offer a myriad of ways to explore the town’s past through pirate tales, costumes and battles fought and won in centuries gone by

12 april 2023
On April 21st and 22nd the Adeje Book Fair will take over the Plaza de España with the XX edition of this popular event, which this year is under the slogan “Navegando por el tiempo” (travelling through time…).  The events include the recreation of a 1746 battle with troops defending Adeje from the English, and a visit of an 8 metre T-Rex to the plaza.  There will be book signings, exhibitions, workshops and round-tables with authors, theatrical productions, and lots more.   The battle re-creation is on April 22nd at 9pm and performed by the Asociación Gesta 25 de Julio, the Asociación Cultural Imoque, and the Adeje Municipal Folklore School.

The Adeje Book Fair has been organised by the council’s department of Education, under Councillor María Clavijo Maza.  Before the full weekend of activities in and around the Plaza de España a range of related activities are planned, with one of the major personages being the Tenerife pirate Amaro Pargo, who was known for his commercial presence in the middle ages here. His story will be told to students in the borough’s primary schools during the week leading up to the Book Fair.

Students from both primary and secondary schools will also be visiting the main fair in the Plaza de España on Friday April 21st, with younger students invited to a story-telling event and senior students invited to find out more about pirates, corsairs, legends and mysteries of the Canary Islands.

The public will be welcome to the Plaza de España from 5pm on Friday April 21st  and all day Saturday April 22nd from 10am, with a host of activities, from book-signings and presentations, historical wine tasting, and the annual bringing together of non-Spanish authors (Saturday, 5pm – 6pm).

As well as events in the Plaza de España the Convento de San Francisco and the Adeje Auditorium will be hosting parallel events. Full programme online in English in our official blog, https://townhall.adeje.es/?especial/4726/adeje-book-fair-april-17-22
