The Adeje Policía Local continue to increase their numbers, resources and training in 2023

20 new agents will join the force in the coming months, with improved services promised to increase citizen safety

Adeje’s Policía Local force is expanding during this year, with the incorporation of 20 new agents who are currently going through a selection process. During the next months the councillor for security, Mercedes Vargas Delgado, is also brining in new resources for the local force, with specialised training, and a new vehicle for the local dog unit.

“The security of the borough has always been one of our priorities”, commented the councillor, “we cannot forget that we are a tourist destination and our police have to care for both our residents and our visitors”.

The 20 new members of the force are being chosen from a recruitment drive that began last year, and the councillor says that their training should be completed in time for them to become full agents before the end of the year.

Adeje has also purchased 10 new defibrillators for patrol units, and the councillor is aware of the call from health authorities to increase the number of such defibrillators to all non-health emergency services.  In many cases the Policía Local are the first to respond to issues in the borough, including of a medical nature, and therefore the increase in the number of patrol cars with the units will help in reducing the death rate from possible heart attacks.

Another addition to the fleet in 2023 will be a vehicle for the canine unit.  The decision was taking following the excellent work the unit have already completed, particularly in drug detection. “We have requested an adapted vehicle of this kind for the benefit of the dogs in our unit”, said the councillor. There are currently three dogs in the unit, Imoque, Conde, and Sol.
