The agreement between the two bodies guarantees the continuance of the good work of the centre which cares for special needs individuals

Just recently Adeje council renewed its collaboration with the Asociación San Juan, re-pledging to assist in the operational needs of their centre for pedagogical cures and social therapy dealing with special needs individuals.

“Among the duties and abilities of a town council are improvements to the quality of the lives of the people in the borough, guaranteeing their rights to social welfare and the means to enjoy their individual and social rights and participation and full integration into society”, said Adeje mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga.

The agreement aims to develop the social side of activities that this association has underway. Currently, the association has the centre in Adeje and two homes, aimed at promoting education in general and the assistance, recovery, teaching and social integration of people who need special care, based on the methodology of healing pedagogy, social therapy and Waldorf pedagogy, performing, promoting and protecting all kinds of studies, research and work directed towards the education of special needs individuals.

Ana Oneida Borges Medina, president of the association, said, “we are very grateful for the commitment and the confidence that the council and other public and private bodies have shown in us, that have contributed to allowing San Juan to function for the last 28 years,  to become a social structure that allows the appropriate level of integration for each special needs individual, offers the possibility to each and every one of those people to be somewhere that offers a curative environment with safe human interaction”.  She said too that the collaborative links and the close links between the two bodies had been of huge help during this time, “when we grew and learnt together”.

The services provided by association include, among others, the provision of individualised and comprehensive attention to the users of the resource, through its day centre, located in Adeje, and the two homes, one in Armeñime and another in Granadilla. Since 2019, in agreement with the Insular Institute for Social Care (IAAS), the Service for the Promotion of Personal Autonomy has been provided, as well as the Spiral programme, offering education for all, serving children and adolescents in need of special care.
