The Canarian president, Ángel Víctor Torres, visited Adeje’s secondary school, IES El Galeón today and praised the educational advances the school has achieved with increased used of new technologies in information and communication (TIC) and the commitment of both the staff and students to adapting to the new advances.

The president, who was accompanied during his visit by the director of the secondary school, Salvador González, and staff members, said the school was a great example “especially in these times, when new technologies have become a central part of education in our lives, in particular as a result of the pandemic”. He was also impressed at the multinational make-up of the student body, with pupils from over 52 different countries currently in attendance.

President Torres made special mention of the attention given by IES El Galeón to students in the borough with special educational needs. “This has grown and is an excellent example of the extraordinary work being doing, something recognised by the regional government”, he said. He added that he was hugely impressed by the implication and dedication of the teaching body of the school, and of the students.

IES El Galeón has 837 students, and the bachillerato students have sciences and humanities and social sciences as their preferred options. The school has been involved in the Brújula20 pilot scheme which concentrates on the use of digital educational materials which are integrated into the curriculum.
