Adeje’s names the winner of this year’s Abinque prize - Emilia González

The annual prize recognises a woman or women who have worked and advanced the equality of women

Adeje mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga has announced the winner of this year’s Abinque prize, an award given by Adeje annually to a woman or women who have advanced the equality of women in society at all levels.  This year the winner is Emilia González, a science graduate and an expert in meteorology and communications.
 
The mayor commented, “This year we are awarding to prize to Emilia, Mili as she is known in the borough, given her professional successes both as a communicator, a presenter on TV Canarias, as well as for her dedication to the sciences. 
 
Emilia declared, “To be awarded the Abinque prize is so significant for me, this is a huge honour, and an enormous responsibility”:
 
The Abinque prize was an initiative of the departments of health and equality, with councillor Amada Trujillo Bencomo (a previous winner) and councillor Juan Desiderio Afonso Ruiz at the helm. It recognises the work of women in many aspects of live in Adeje.  This year’s prize reflects the achievements of this Adeje woman in the worlds of science and communication.
 
With over 20 years as a TV presenter under her belt, Emilia González has been the weather presenter in the ‘El Tiempo’ section, and worked on information sections. She has also presented programmes such as ‘Primer Plano’, ‘Canarias Directo’ and ‘El Envite’.  Recently she has fronted ‘Tierra de Alisios’, bringing the viewer aspects of Canarian life, from gastronomy to traditions, wellness and culture.   Emilia González was also the inaugural speaker at the opening of the Adeje Patronal fiestas 2021.

2021 – Adeje health and ancillary workers from the health centres in Adeje and Armeñime
