Adeje united against domestic violence

Councillors, staff and the public held a minute’s silence this afternoon led by the mayor

25 november 2021
Adeje council held a gathering today on the steps of the Town Hall, headed up by the mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, marking International Day against Violence against Women, expressing the support of the council for all those in danger and outlining the resources Adeje has made available to those seeking help.

The mayor also denounced the increase in what is termed vicarious violence, where (usually) men use children as a weapon and a tool to hurt their partner, the mother of the children.

The councillor for health Amada Trujillo Bencomo also addressed the gathering and read from a manifesto written by Adeje council, the federation of municipalities and the network of Southern boroughs for equality. Among other things the manifesto committed councils involved to “continue to include domestic violence as a priority issue in the political agenda, implement integrated policies, and develop prevention campaigns especially among young people and families, and work to reach agreements in this field among political parties”.

The manifesto also stressed the need for councils and to offer a proper range of resources to those in need and in danger from domestic violence, under the management of properly qualified personnel.
