Adeje Impulsa, a part of the Adeje council’s training programme area, has just concluded it’s ‘Boot camp: growing talent in data analysis’ course, which worked to increase participants’ working knowledge in the field of Big Data.  The course ran during the months of September and October.

On Friday November 12th councillor for development and job creation, Manuel Luis Méndez Martin, awarded certificates to the participants, and emphasised that “data awareness is so important today, it can show us weaknesses and strengths in the market, and properly used and interpreted is a very useful tool.  It helps us plan and orientate municipal strategies too, both in the tourism market and in other areas which we are working to strengthen, which is why we are training professionals in the Big Data sector”.

With the training completed the course participants, mostly women, can now seek work in data analysis in businesses and can offer services in data compilation, sales and marketing analytics, consumer profiling etc., and be part of a decision making operational team within a company.

“This is a job area, a profession that has a secure future, in businesses, in job creation, with job opportunities will be available in both public and private sectors”, argues Méndez Martín.

The DataCamp taught participants about the principles of programming, working with Python as a programming language to analyse data, using data bases, extracting data from information sources, learning how to reach data-based conclusions using empirical methods, etc. Those who took part would have already had high school/university certification, and have had working knowledge of information technology. They were also on the Adeje padrón of residents and registered as unemployed before the course began.

The course used boot camp training styles, with intensive short training sessions, 160 hours of classes, and was divided into 4 modules, the science of data and programming with Python, data analysis with Panda, visualisation of data and maps, and Power BI business intelligence tables.
