Adeje defends the rights of children

There will be a series of events next week marking International Children’s Rights Day on radio, in schools and through workshops

10 november 2021
Adeje’s department of community wellbeing under Councillor Mercedes Vargas Delgado will run a series of events next week in the run up to November 20th, International Children’s Rights Day.  Different council areas will be participating in a variety of ways, which will, says the councillor, “value children, their rights and needs, and raise awareness regarding the need to work together for children’s wellbeing”.

The activities will be taking place in Adeje from November 15th to 20th working to disseminate information about the rights of children throughout the borough, and there will be a chance for everyone to participate too.  There will be events taking place in schools, discussing the integral rights of children and allowing pupils discuss the matter and express their opinions.

The Adeje webpage, www.adeje.es will be hosting a series of podcasts, an initiative of the Adeje School of Music and Dance, (EMMA). The Los Olivos centre for persons with special needs and the Duendecillo Azul, the municipal crèche, have also interesting days planned, all adding to increasing awareness of the rights of all our children.

The sports department have organised a separate initiative, “una Carrera hacia mis derechos” (a race for my rights), with something sporty happening in each of the borough’s sports pavilions.

The department dealing with community welfare will run workshops in three specific blocks, asking relevant questions about the needs of children and their happiness, and from these workshops the area will work on evolving tools to help parents and families.

On November 18th the departments of citizen participation and communication will work together to present two outside broadcasts in the El Galeón Outlet commercial centre.  The Viva la Vida (Spanish) programme, from 11am to 1pm, and English Time (in English) from 1pm to 1.30pm, both programmes discussing the rights and needs of children in Adeje and globally.

The cultural department will be staging a theatrical productions, “Proyecto Escarcha – El Caso de Don Glotón” in the school of music auditorium.
