The borough of Adeje has been officially chosen by the Canarian blood donation institute and the regional chemotherapy department as the headquarters for the celebration of World Blood Donation Day in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife for 2022.

The event to name Adeje took place recently in the Teobaldo Power auditorium in La Orotava, in the presence of the regional government’s director of blood transfusion, Amador Martín, the local authorities and the Adeje mayor and councillor for health, Jose Miguel Rodríguez Fraga and Amada Trujillo Bencomo.

Adeje will now undertake the work to help in the creation and publication of blood donation campaigns in 2022, the overall aim being to increase the amount of donations throughout  the islands next year. “We will be working to make the public more aware of the reason why donating blood is so important”, commented the Adeje mayor.

Other goals will be working with different bodies in society – schools, businesses, leisure centres etc., to get involved in blood drives.  Adeje council is committed to working across different departments in the promotion, design and development of campaigns, workshops, and round table events all designed to raise awareness and donations.

Social networks will also be used extensively to outline the huge importance of blood banks and blood donations, with different campaigns for different times of the year, the overall aim being to guarantee that there is always a sufficient supply of blood for essential purposes.

In Adeje there is now a fixed donation point, in the Fañabe cultural centre, that is open at certain times of the year for those wishing to donate.
