Adeje to apply Level 3 reinforced restrictions with the closure of beaches and parks from 8pm nightly to reduce the spread of Covid-19

The council will have prevention measure in place in areas where people tend to gather in large numbers

9 july 2021
The Adeje crisis cabinet, presided over by mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, met today, Friday July 9th, to oversee the strengthening of  the plan to enforce the measures decreed yesterday by the regional Canarian government, including the closure of parks and beaches from 8pm nightly.  The new restrictions will come into force from Sunday morning 00.01am, July 11th.   The goal of these restrictions is to place a brake on the rise in Covid-19 infections in Tenerife, and the public are asked to take into account the fact that the number of infections here in Adeje has risen to 170.

The council is activating a special operation to assist in closing playgrounds, plazas, public sports courts open to the public and other public places that don’t have gates that can be closed from 8pm.  There will be a particular emphasis on beach closures where there will be extra municipal personnel in place, not just to close the beaches also to make sure there is no overcrowding in general and that social distancing and other measures are being respected. The necessary information will be relayed to the public through megaphones reminding the public of the new restrictions in place and the closure of the beaches due to a health emergency. This will also see a team of people on hand in certain areas to explain to local residents and tourists the restrictions in place and the need for on-going caution.

There will be an increased police presence on the streets this weekend, to make sure that no groups attempt to break the current and new restrictions, and avoid concentrations of people in public, such as the street parties known as ‘botellones’.  There will be joint operations in conjunction with the national police and the Guardia Civil in zones where people have been known to congregate.

The council is also repeating a general call-out to the local population and to visitors to the area to continue to behave responsibility as they have over recent months.  In particular the council is asking young people and those vaccinated to remember that just because they may be vaccinated or feel they are not at risk doesn’t meant that they cannot transmit the infection to others,

People are asked to continue to use masks outdoors and of course indoors in required areas (shops, businesses, etc) where it is still obligatory, and people are reminded of the need for social distancing, and cleaning of hands as well as sticking to agreed capacity numbers.

Adeje council is in constant contact with island and regional authorities regarding these and other in-place measures dealing with Covid-19
