Adeje is working to make sure that it’s standing as a reference point during Easter Week in the Canary Islands remains relevant, which is why the council have organised a series of various activities such as the retransmission of an earlier edition of ‘La Pasión’, the annual Good Friday street theatre depicting the last days and death of Jesus Christ. This will be broadcast on a number of local and national channels as well as the Adeje social networks. In parallel the council have organised an exhibition with large photographs on canvases hung on the churches of the borough, and on lampposts as you enter the town. The photographs capture moments during previous stagings of La Pasión. Through these displays the council is working to emphasise the value of our local heritage in sacred displays and the cultural value to Adeje of events such as the staging of the event under normal circumstances. La Pasión has been performed on the Calle Grande in Adeje on Good Friday for many years with the participation of up to 300 Adeje residents and usually in front of thousands of visitors. For the council it is very important that they continue to mark event such as La Pasión even during this time of crisis, as for the second year consecutively an actual staging is impossible. Last year the council and networks rebroadcast the event from 2018 and 2019, this year they look back to 2017, which you will be able to see on April 2nd, Good Friday, at 12 noon, on the Adeje YouTube and Facebook pages as well as Mirame TV, Canal 4, Canal 10 and 13TV nationally.
The Easter Week visual offering is complemented by a series of models/dioramas created by the Adeje Seniors group (who also make the incredible Christmas nativity scene annually). The display of the models is now on show at the Plaza de España. There will also be a number of concerts of sacred music in the Santa Úrsula church – on March 27th with the Ensemble Sul-Cordas and on March 31st the Adagio Trío. Both concerts are at 7pm and are free to the public (limited capacity permitting).
