The grant has added importance given the existence of the Covid-19 pandemic

Adeje's department of health, under councillor Amada Trujillo Bencomo, has renewed its commitment for the third year running, to the AECC, the Spanish cancer association, agreeing to a subvention of €18,800, to launch an integrated oncology programme. This offers an integral service for patients with cancer and their families, attending to physical, social, psychological and physical needs, some that are generally not cared for directly under the public health service.

“With this money we will be working to meet the needs of those living in Adeje affected by all kinds of cancer, and those of their families”, said the councilor, who announced details alongside the president of the AECC, Juan Orozco Muñoz.  With this funding the AECC will be able to continue to offer the best kinds of services on offer for local patients and families.

The grant has added importance given the existence of the Covid-19 pandemic and the situation those most vulnerable members of the community find themselves in. One of the vital parts of this service is the personalised attention on offer for patients and their families, based on personal visits to the homes of those affected.

During 2019 there were 72 evaluations carried out with psychological services offered to 22 persons, 71 individuals received social assistance, 32 were given oncological physiotherapy and 17 patients took part in activities for the prevention of /rehabilitation from lymphedema.

The AECC, with the Adeje council and other administrations, are also promoting the ‘Kilometro Solidario’ Project, which offers free transport to patients who need to travel from the south of Tenerife to the Hospital la Candelaria, for treatments or appointments with specialists.

The south Tenerife offices of the AECC are located in the offices of the health department in Adeje, 1st Floor, Calle Tinerfe el Grande, 32, Adeje, and are open to the public on Monday to Friday, 8am to 3pm.  Appointments are necessary and can be booked by 900.112.061.
