Adeje Town Council and the Canarian Institute of Blood Donation and Haemotherapy (ICHH) were very pleased at the results of their recent blood donation campaign during the Adeje Summer University, (UVA).
Running on July 24th and 25th of July during the week-long summer university, 65 people came forward to donate blood, a number the organisers saw as a very positive result.
“The importance of this campaign lies not only in the number of donations received but also in raising awareness about the constant need for blood in our community,” said the Councillor for Health, Esther Rivero Vargas. She underlined that the data indicates “each donation can save up to three lives, highlighting the significant impact of this altruistic act.”
The ICHH is also reminding people that “donating blood is essential to supplies, and is something that should be done regularly. Men are recommended to donate four times a year and women three times, with a minimum interval of two months between each donation. These guidelines are crucial to ensure that there is always a sufficient blood supply available for those in need.”
Adeje Town Council works hand-in-hand with the ICHH to promote blood donation and improve overall community health. This strategic alliance not only reinforces the Council's commitment to the well-being of Adeje's residents but also facilitates access to vital services.
One of the most notable initiatives of this collaboration is the logistics implemented by Adeje to position the ICHH's mobile unit at various strategic points in the municipality. The blood donation unit visits Adeje several times a year and carries out extra campaigns as needed, such as this one which took place during the Adeje Summer University.
The campaign aims not only to increase blood reserves but also to foster a culture of solidarity in Tenerife's southern region. Every drop counts, and every donor helps save lives.
Joint Effort
“The collaboration between the Town Council and the ICHH is a clear example of how institutions can work together to improve the quality of life for everyone. From various perspectives and approaches, we continue to promote a culture of solidarity and responsibility, where every donation counts and can make a significant difference in the lives of those who need it most,” said Councillor Esther Rivero Vargas.
Throughout 2024, in partnership with Adeje council, campaigns have been carried out in January, March, May, June, and July. Thanks to careful planning and coordinated work, the mobile unit is available in accessible locations, allowing people to take part in the donation campaigns.
Additionally, the Council uses its digital platforms to maximise the visibility of these initiatives. Through social media posts and the Council's website, the public is kept up to date about dates and locations of the donation sessions, as well as the importance of contributing to this cause. This strategy not only increases community participation but also raises awareness about the constant need for blood donations.
