The XXI Adeje Book Fair is full of surprises

This fair will last for a week, happening in different locations around the town

Events as part of the XXI Adeje Book Fair are happening from April 22nd to 28th in Adeje. Under the slogan "Reading is magic. A huge adventure", the programme includes some new additions to the fair, including an Illustration and Collecting Fair on Sunday 28th in the Plaza de España where the traditional book fair itself will be taking place on Friday and Saturday, April 26th and 27th. 
 
Says education councillor Coraima Afonso Navarro, "the promotion of reading has always been one of the main pillars of this government team and the book fair is an important event in our calendar. Through the fair we can also promote our local bookshops and writers and this year we are also giving space to those dedicated to illustration and collecting". Culture councillor Adolfo Alonso Ferrera, added, “the work of the council in the promotion of reading is not only limited to the Book Fair, but also encompasses such important aspects as the municipal library network and the study rooms. It is vitally important to work with educational centres to promote reading ".
 
Book presentations
During the Book Fair there will be presentations of works written by Canarian authors. Books to be presented include:  "La conquista de Canarias desde los personajes guanches", by Alfredo Goñi; "La princesita Fisco y el sueño mágico", written by María Candelaria Ramos Ascani, with the aid of Asociación Atletas sin Fronteras; "Villablanca dos calles que dan al mar", by Matilde Magdalena Coello; “Manual de entrenamiento emocional para (jóvenes) futbolistas”,  by Antonio Rodríguez Hernández and Ricardo Rodríguez Pérez; the poetry  project “Cautiverio”, by Miguel Ángel Galindo and “Matrimonios de la parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción de la Villa de San Sebastián de la Gomera “, by Nelson Díaz Frías.
 
Children’s Activities
Included in the range of activities planned are many kids, including visits to the exhibition "Cetaceans of the Macaronesia" courtesy of the of the Loro Parque Foundation, children's workshops, storytelling, the visit to the Book Fair, the puppet show "Los cuentos de la abuela", by the Tragaluz Company and the musical performance by Güicho y su Banda.
 
Parallel Performances
There will be some activities that are not directly related to reading, which serve to encourage cultural development from different. The programme includes: the open-air theatre show "Doblones para la eternidad", by Burka Teatro, concerts from Úbeda and En-Acústico and a recital performance, "La orilla dorada", by Ernesto Rodríguez Abad.  There will be a poetry evening organised by the Asociación Vecinal La Postura (La Postura Neighbourhood Association). Poems created by the community will be recited and the process of creating works in verse will be discussed. As part of the event, prizes will be awarded for the 1st Short Story Competition and the 1st Speed Painting Competition.
 
Reading clubs
Different reading clubs will carry out activities related to the Adeje Book Fair: The El Refugio Reading Club meeting, the Literary Route through the Streets of Adeje and the "CIADGE" Gender Reading Club meeting.
1st Illustration and Collecting Fair
 
The Illustration and Collecting Fair will feature young illustrators and collectors from all over the island.  Members of the public will be able to buy their designs and works on sale and over the course of the day, some of them will show the process of creating an illustration.
