The 1st ''Horizons'' Congress of the Canarian Association for Mental Health will have an open session for the general public

Professionals in Human Rights and Neuroscience will share their knowledge at what will be a one-off event

The Canarian Association for Mental Health, "Horizons", will open its doors to the public as part of the First Congress of the ACN, which will take place on Friday, September 22nd, at the Adeje Auditorium. The event will be divided into two blocks, where relevant professionals from the sector will share their knowledge. In the first block, from 4pm to 5.30pm, Ignacio Jovtis, an international lawyer with experience in armed conflicts, will offer a perspective on mental health in times of war, focusing on his work in the Ukraine War.  Ignacio Jovtis is a Senior Programme Manager at the George Clooney Foundation for Justice, and will share his experience in research and legal strategies to promote litigation on international crimes. With over 14 years of experience in international NGOs, Ignacio has made a significant impact in the field of human rights. 
 
The presentation will be led by Eduardo Vera Barrios, President of the ACN. This will be followed by a Q & A session.
 
In the second block, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm Jesús Martín-Fernández, a prominent neurosurgeon, will take attendees on a journey "To the Other Side of the River" in the world of awake neurosurgery and connectome. Jesús Martín-Fernández is globally recognized in awake brain tumour neurosurgery, and has revolutionised the field by preserving the emotional functions of patients through innovative methodology. Winner of the "Best Young Neuroscientist Award 2022," he is currently on an international residency at Gui de Chauliac Hospital, Montpellier, under the tutelage of the eminent professor Hugues Duffau. 
 
The presentation will be moderated by Miguel Alcantara Gutierrez, an ACN spokesperson. Then, there will be a Q&A session, followed by a discussion forum.
