La Hoya will host its annual fiesta in honour of La Virgen de la Milagrosa

Events will take place in the church plaza, and this year there will be no firework display

Hoya Grande is preparing to celebrate its annual fiesta in honour of La Virgen de la Milagrosa. Events will be in and around the church plaza with a programme of activities for all the family, cultural, religious, musical, and sporting.
 
The fiestas commission, in accordance with the Adeje council, have taken the decision to cancel the firework display that would normally form part of the celebrations. The decision was taking in solidarity with the towns on the island currently at risk given the forest fire. They also took into account the requirement that there be fire-fighters on hand if there is any fireworks display, and it was agreed that they are currently needed elsewhere!
 
Among the events will be the election of the festival queen, on Friday August 25th, with various performances, by Jordan Elejardes, American Cabaret, Pily Soy Yo, and music from Sensación Gomera and WE are Pimpz Dj.
 
On Saturday August 26th, from 10.30am, there will be bouncy castles and water castles, children’s animation, a foam party and much more.  There will also be a picnic in the baseball stadium.  Later on at 2pm the dessert competition is taking place, with winners announced after the official tasting.  
 
From 8pm there will be prayers to La Virgen de la Milagrosa, with parish priest Federico Armas Díaz, followed by a procession with singing from the Agrupación Musical Isorana.   The evening finishes with a street party and music from Maquinaria Band and Sensación Gomera. 
 
On Sunday August 27th there is mass at 1pm with singing from Grupo La Diata. This will be followed by a procession. The dominos tournament is at 5pm in the Tijoco-La Hoya cultural centre and from 7.30pm there will be more fun for the children with clowns and other performances.  From 10.30pm it’s music into the night, with El Merengazo and Álvaro Gamboa, dj Jorge Martín and the Una Hora Menos group.
 
At 7pm on Monday August 28th its ‘Tenderete’ time with food from the Catering Fermín Mesa and music from El Mesturao and Dúo Nivaria.  There’s a comedy festival from 9pm and dancing with Wamampy and Toke Latino from 10.30pm.
 
Sporting events
On Tuesday August 22nd there is a Basket Legends event at 7pm n the Tijoco-La Hoya pavilion, with veterans from Adeje, Los Abus and Tijoco-La Hoya.  On Wednesday its indoor football, with Los Kikis, Chimisur 89 and Hograti in the Tijoco-La Hoya pavilion at 8pm, and on Thursday it’s more football fun in the baseball camp from 8pm.
