The Adeje Public Library Network welcomes EU grant

With the monies received the library has added 580 titles to the shelves

22 august 2023
The Adeje Public Library Network - members of the Network of Public Libraries of the Canary Islands- are in luck as they have received a  direct grant for the provision of more books. This initiative has been made possible thanks to the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan financed by the European Union and the Next Generation funds of the European Union. In total 580 new titles have been bought at a cost of € 9,214.40

The content and subject matter of the books are suitable for the general public. Among the books already available for lending are books on fiction, poetry, theatre, essays, biographies, children's and young people's literature, comics, science, etc. It should be noted that special attention has been paid to new publications.

More than 10% of the acquisitions are from inclusive collections, i.e. works that are easy to read, with large print, adaptations, and books in English, German and French. The printed bibliographic collections acquired with the subsidy are already included in the catalogues and available for consultation.

In this respect, the councillor responsible for Libraries in this legislature, Adolfo Alonso Ferrera, has indicated that "we are going to facilitate access for the public to the books acquired, free of charge and with equal access, by opening the libraries to the public at times adapted to meet the needs of users, as well as lending them out".

As libraries integrated in the Network of Public Libraries of the Canary Islands (BICA Network), the codification "MRR2023" has been incorporated in each copy record of the documents acquired within the computerised library management system. The Adeje Library Network has complied with the requirements established by the Agreement of the Council of Ministers of 13 July 2021, which established the territorial distribution of the credits of Project C24.12.P4 "Provision of libraries" and the requirements for the acquisition of books.
