El Puertito festival organisers have cancelled the firework display scheduled for this weekend

The decision was taken given the on-going work fire-fighters are engaged in with the forest fire in the north of Tenerife

El Puertito festival organisers have cancelled the firework display scheduled for this weekend.  The decision was taken both as a sign of solidarity with the fire fighters working on the forest fire in the north of the island, and to avoid any need for them here in case of any accidents. The rest of the El Puertito festivities continue as planned.

The fiestas committee agreed the decision with Adeje council this morning, also stating that this was in solidarity with the towns and villages that are directly affected by the fire. It also means that no personnel from the local volunteer fire brigade need be on hand and away from the important work in the north.  Fiestas must have fire fighters on stand-by if fireworks are included in celebrations. “This is not the right time to have fireworks, not the right time to take fire fighters away from where they are needed”, said the committee.

The Adeje councillor for culture, Adolfo Alonso Ferrera, praised the decision of the El Puertito committee. “We are a municipality that is demonstrating solidarity with our northern neighbours, and what is important is that all the available resources are fighting the fire ".
