Adeje will be HQ for the XI Iberoamerican Karate Championships

Friday July 21st and Saturday July 22 the Las Torres pavilion will be the epicentre of international karate. Entry to the competition is free

Adolfo Alonso Ferrera, Adeje sports councillor, alongside Antonio Moreno Marqueño, president of the Spanish Karate Federation, José Pérez García, president of the Canarian Karate Federation, and Paola García Lozano, Spanish karate champion presented details of the XI Iberoamerican Karate Championships today in Adeje. The competition takes place in the Las Torres pavilion this weekend and entry is free.

The councillor said, “It is an honour for Adeje to be the HQ for this championship again. The council would like to thank the federations who helped make this happen. Adeje is a borough where sports play a very important role, and proof of that are the number of olympic karate champions who have trained here, and we are thrilled and proud to have a champion with us today”.

Antonio Moreno Marqueño, who is also president of the Iberoamerican Karate federation and vice president of the Spanish olympic council, said “we are indebted to Adeje who are always there to help us promote such a specialised sport as karate. The borough has demonstrated its commitment to the sport on many occasions''.

José Pérez García, thanked Adeje for the respect shown to the sport, “one that requires a lot of discipline”. Paola García Lozano, European champion in the Kata Karate discipline, also thanked the federations for their work and commitment in encouraging events such as this one. “This will be my first Iberoamerican championship and I hope I am at the top of my game for all my delegation, many of whom are young enthusiastic athletes, and we will be going in to compete and represent Spain as best we can”.

Programme
The championships will see competitors from 14 different countries taking part. Members of the public can attend for free in the Las Torres pavilion.

On Friday July 21st there will be different practical sessions with members of the national team: IvaŽn Leal Reglero,Irene Colomar Costa and Francisco JoseŽ Salazar Jover. On Saturday from 11am the F.I.K. hold their congress, and in the afternoon, from 5pm registration and delegation accreditation. Saturday is competition day.
