Los Olivos is celebrating their summer festival in honour of La Virgen del Carmen and San Jose

The celebrations will be held from July 8th to 17th in the plaza

The first two weeks of July see the neighbourhood of Los Olivos in fiesta mode, celebrating the festival in honour of La Virgen del Carmen and San Jose.  There will be a host of religious and cultural acts taking place, all open to the public, full details of which can be found on the Adeje website, www.adeje.es
 
The celebrations will begin with a formal address by Ermitas María Moreira, who represented the neighbourhood for 20 years as a councillor.  This is happening at 8pm and will be accompanied by the raising of the flag of the Virgen in the Plaza de los Olivos.  Following the talk there will be a presentation of the candidates for festival queens (infants and junior), and music from some of the woodwind section of the Adeje school music.
 
Events continue on Sunday July 9th at 7pm with a sung mass in the La Viña hermitage, the statue of ‘La Virgen del Carmen’ will then be carried in procession to the Los Olivos church, accompanied by the La Sabinosa folklore group.  To finish the evening performers from the Adeje School of music will stage a musical show. 
 
On Tuesday July 11th, from 6pm, there will be a procession to the senior citizens home, with the Adeje patron band, then a sung mass with the Boleros de Armeñime, who will also perform afterwards in the Los Olivos plaza.
 
The election of the junior festival queen in on Wednesday July 12th at 9.30pm, with a performance from Ballet Infantil, and the candidates are: Valeria Elizet Rivero Siverio, Daniela Fuentes Fernández, Miranda Isabella Vargas Ortega, Berenice Mederos Rodríguez, Noa Bascones Rodríguez and Naira Prada Durante.
 
On Thursday July 13th the adult queen is chosen, and the candidates are: Lucía García Mederos, Uxia Martín Rodríguez, Paula Brito Negrín, Loane Juglair and Maya Samgi.
 
Friday July 14th is a night of humour with Aarón Gómez and he will be joined by Pepe Benavente, and DJ Fabrizio.  
 
From 10am to 1pm on Saturday July 15th it’s time for the kids, with bouncy castles, face painting, craft works, and lots more. There will be a religious event in the church at 6pm, and from 9pm music with El Cardón, and later dancing with Corinto and Maquinaria bands.
 
Sunday July 16th is ‘Dia de la Virgen’, with children’s activities in the morning, a solemn sung mass at 8pm with offerings from different parts of the neighbourhood.  There will be processions and fireworks, and the evening ends with music from La Sabrosa.
 
The festivities come to an end on July 17th at 7pm with a sung mass and the return of ‘La Virgen del Carmen’ to La Viña.
