Collaborative artistic committee have worked with AI to offer poster suggestions for the Adeje Summer University

The four poster suggestions are now up for public voting following a debate about the use of art, its limitations, and the tools that should or should not be used in creating art

In an innovative departure from previous years, the Adeje council has brought together a council of artists, asked to work with and on artificial intelligence, to present final artwork as possible posters for the Adeje Summer University 2023.  This is an artistic experiment and has generated an intense debate among the artists and others about the use of AI, creating art, and the role of artists in the age of new technology.  The debate will itself form part of the summer university this year.

The four members of the committee, artists Aída Díaz, Alba González, Aída Cecilia Hernández y Oriol Cruz, have each presented a poster entry for the event, which will be now chosen by the public this week in an online vote.

You can view the entries and vote here before June 18th:

The winner will become the poster for the university and the other three will continue to be the focus for the wider debate on art and AI.

In the run up to the presentation of the four entries there was debate among the artists regarding the use and presence of AI in art and the creative process.  Each artist brought their unique vision to the process, asking questions that reflect both the enthusiasm and reservations that surround this theme.

The artists are Oriol Cruz, who defends the use of AI as a tool that allows artists expand their limits and reach new creative heights. Alba González revelled in her experimentation with new technology and for her the ability to explore new abstract concepts and discover images created by AI was a fascinating experience.

Aida Cecilia Hernández, while still not very familiar with using AI, says she is intrigued by the concept and asks if new technology will challenge more traditional art forms. Aida Díaz voiced concerns about the limitations of AI in art with preconceived ideas in creation.

The initiative by the Adeje council has already generated a wide exchange of ideas and opinions about the meeting of art and new technology, opening up discussions about the potential collaborative processes between the human mind and the AI.  And the debate will continue.
