The Plaza de España in Adeje will be full of words and wonder this weekend

This year’s theme for the XX Adeje Book fair is how words can take us on a time travelling journey

19 april 2023
On April 21st and 22nd the Adeje Book Fair will take over the Plaza de España with the XX edition of this popular event, which this year is under the slogan “Navegando por el tiempo” (travelling through time…).  The events include the recreation of a 1746 battle with troops defending Adeje from the English, and a visit of an 8 metre T-Rex to the plaza.

There will be book signings, exhibitions, workshops and round-tables with authors, theatrical productions, and lots more.   The battle re-creation is on April 22nd at 9pm and performed by the Asociación Gesta 25 de Julio, the Asociación Cultural Imoque, and the Adeje Municipal Folklore School.

The Adeje Book Fair has been organised by the council’s department of Education, under Councillor María Clavijo Maza.  Students from both primary and secondary schools will be visiting the main fair in the Plaza de España on Friday April 21st, with younger students invited to a story-telling event and senior students invited to find out more about pirates, corsairs, legends and mysteries of the Canary Islands.

The public will be welcome to the Plaza de España from 5pm on Friday April 21st  and all day Saturday April 22nd from 10am, with a host of activities, from book-signings and presentations, historical wine tasting, and there will be parallel events in the Convento, beside the plaza, and the new Adeje Auditorium.   Also of interest is a look at our local history through dress and uniforms of days gone by, in the Adeje Convento.

While most of the events during the weekend are in Spanish, on Saturday afternoon at 5pm there will be a presentation of foreign language author who will be on hand to meet the public and sign and sell books.
