Hotrec, the umbrella association of national trade associations representing the hotels, restaurants, cafés and similar establishments in Europe, will meet in Adeje later this month with over 100 representatives of the sector from 46 national associations expected to attend the association’s general assembly in the GF Victoria Hotel.

Tenerife was chosen as the destination for this meeting at the Stockholm meeting last October, with Ashotel, the provincial hoteliers association hosting the event as the local member group, alongside CEHAT, the Spanish confederation of hotels and tourism stays, as co-hosts.

This morning the Ashotel and CEHAT president Jorge Marichal presented details to the press, alongside Adeje mayor Jose Miguel Rodriguez Fraga, Cabildo president Pedro Martín and other business associates. Video messages from Hotrec president Alexandros Vassilikos and tbe Spanish president José Luis Yzuel were also presented.
Jorge Marichal said that hostelry in Spain “is a fundamental pillar of our economy and part of our DNA, so we are particularly delighted to be the meeting point for the European hotel sector”. He said it was also a honour to be able to show the other members of the association how the Canary islands tourism was as a destination
Jose Miguel Rodríguez Fraga commented, “this is an excellent time for this conference, with tourism maintaining its position as the principal economic motor here….This is important for the Canary Islands, for Tenerife, for Adeje, as it also shows our capacity to organise and host this kind of event, as a sector that is constantly striving for excellence”. He also referred to the importance of showing other countries how here private and public institutions work well together for the benefit of all in the sector.
Cabildo president Pedro Martín said it was an excellent reflection of the value in which Tenerife was held as a destination that it had been chosen for an international event of this kind, one where experts would debate and reflect on the future of the hotel industry.
