Neighbourhoods in action – a new Adeje project

This project is the initiative of the department of citizen participation and will be working to create meeting spaces, and listen to residents and associations in different neighbourhoods

Adeje council have begun a project to encourage more citizen participation in six different neighbourhoods in the borough, under the title ‘ Barrios in Acción’ – neighbourhoods in action.  This project is the initiative of the department of citizen participation, under councillor María Clavijo Maza, and will be working to create meeting spaces, and listen to residents and associations in different neighbourhoods

During the first phase the meetings will be taking place in Armeñime, Callao Salvaje, Fañabé, Las Nieves, Los Olivos-La Postura and Madroñal-Miraverde, and the organisers will be gathering ideas and proposals from residents on how to improve the zone.  The first meetings are in Callao Salvaje’s cultural centre on Tuesday February 7th from 11am to 1pm, and in Fañabé’s cultural centre on Wednesday February 8th from 6pm to 8pm.  More meetings will be scheduled for the second half of the month. All meetings are open to the public in each neighbourhood who would like to attend.

“The ‘Barrios en Acción’ meetings will be encouraging all those who come along to be open about how they see their neighbourhood, and how they think things can improve, working together in a participative and collaborative way to bring each zone more in line with the needs and wants of the residents”.

The project is overseen by the council and the Voltereta association.  They have already begun with contact with individuals who represent groups of residents within each community, and are now reaching out to the population in general to let them know about the project and invite them to these meetings.  The meetings are open to debate, “serving as a constructive way of working towards the ideal neighbourhood that we all want to see”, commented councillor Clavijo Maza.  From these ideas concrete actions and activities will follow, allowing improved social harmony in the neighbourhoods, as well as more access to services and better infrastructure.

The meetings are open to everyone interested in taking part in, says the councillor, “building an ideal neighbourhood together”.   The proposals that people bring to the meetings will be used to build concrete actions that will benefit the zone.   The council are also keen to know about the worries and needs that the citizens in every zone of the borough has and how to best meet them.
