On Friday January 25th there will be a gala event marking the years of public service broadcasting

25 january 2023
Radio Sur Adeje (107.9FM) is celebrating 25 years on air, and is currently launching more new programmes. On Friday January 27th a special event to mark the years of public service broadcasting is taking place.

The councillor for sport, tourism and communications too,  Adolfo Alonso Ferrera, commented, “25 years means a lot.  Since it first launched on air in 1997 Radio Sur Adeje has played a very important role in connectivity with the community, and has seen many young broadcasters also take their first steps on air”.

The councillor continued, “Many local resident associations and community groups have been granted time and space on air, and it has been trans-departmental tool as well in the development of the borough, in education, culture, with many of the borough’s schools now also creating local school radio stations”.

The gala event celebration Radio Sur Adeje will be divided into three parts,  honouring those who have worked with the station over the many years on air, and with heart-felt mentions of those no longer with  us, and there will be a chance to meet the newer presenters behind programmes just starting on air.

The station’s English language programme, English Time, will be among those mentioned as playing its part in contributing to links with Adeje’s multicultural community. The programme is also marking 10 years on air.

In parallel, Radio Sur Adeje is working on a change to the programme menu, incorporating new voices and styles reflecting changes in society in the borough, and in the south of Tenerife.  New programmes on local folklore and traditions are soon to be aired and programmes on training and jobs are to return to the airwaves soon.
