The Adeje council held a ceremony last week to award the prizes in the XII Cacharros competition (where primary students are families are asked to create something made out of recycled materials). The theme this year was IMAGINARTE (Imagine), the project is run by the department of education under councillor María Clavijo Maza, the Municipal works department run by councillor Esther Rivero Vargas, ASCAN – Torrabonaf, and Aqualia Entemanser, who run educational programmes on the need to preserve and expand the water culture in the Canarias.
All of the winning creations, and those who received commendations, are on show in the Adeje cultural centre until December 16th. Councillor María Clavijo Maza said, “Recycled material is the base used in these Cacharros and as is now our tradition, students and their families from our primary schools are going to great lengths to produce these amazing artistic creations”. She pointed out that the event was now in its 12th year and that the idea had grown out of an idea to celebrate San Andrés and had now become a regular part of Adeje’s traditions, promoting recycling among our younger people and allowing them to explore their artistic side.
Winners
All of those who took part received a diploma, and those who were chosen as winners were picked for their artistic perspective, how they reused materials, the originality shown, the complexity, and family participation.
Ascan-Torrabonaf donated prizes with a cost of almost €500, with a first, second and third prize from each school. The prizes are in the form of vouchers for books and materials. Aqualia Entemanser funded the prizes for those students who received a commendation.
