Conde gets chipped

Adeje is reminding people that pets should be chipped and registered on the census

24 january 2022
The Adeje Local Police unit have a new member – Conde. Conde, along with his companions Sol and Imoque, are working to improve community wellbeing in our borough and will be visiting local schools too.

Conde is in training at the moment, and has already been micro-chipped, registered on the Adeje animal census and received all the relevant vaccinations, including against rabies – all these things are actually a requirement for pets in the borough.

The Adeje local police dog unit is currently in a developmental phase and is expanding its sphere of work, with particular emphasis on Adeje’s younger population.

Having domestic animals micro-chipped is a legal requirement in Spain, and is hugely important in the case of a pet being taken or lost, aiding in instant identification and return to their home.

Vaccinations are also something that has to be taken into account, and, for instance, the rabies shot is another legal requirement here in the Canary Islands, and is a vaccination that also has to be repeated annually.

Thirdly pets should be registered on the municipal register in Adeje, this being another legal necessity in Spain, legally giving the pet a registered home and family.

All animals are deserving of our respect, whether they are family pets or animals trained to work with bodies such as the police, in drug units, explosive detection, rescue units, etc.
