Adeje has awarded a ‘Punto Violeta’ to the Domitila Hernández Association

The Adeje councillor for health, Amada Trujillo Bencomo and the councillor for equality, Desiderio Afonso Ruiz, today awarded a ‘Punto Violeta’ to the Domitila Hernández Association, indicating that this is a safe and secure space for victims of domestic violence.

 

“Domitila Hernández has two family meeting points in Adeje and now bears the distinction on the front of their premises, a sign that also credits their teams as working for equality of opportunity and the prevention of gender violence”, explained Afonso Ruiz.

 

During the presentation of the distinction the two councillors spoke with the teams in the centres, thanking them for the work they do for the families in the borough. 

 

"We can now add two more safe spaces to the list in our borough, with the hope that more businesses and entities will want to join the project which is working to improve the lives of everyone in Adeje, working for a safer Adeje, free from domestic and gender violence, a place that respects everyone”, continued the councillor. 

 

Since the introduction of the ‘Puntos Violetas’ at the start of the year 14 have been awarded.  To qualify at least 10% of staff in the centre or business must have completed an accredited training course in equality of opportunities and the prevention of domestic violence.  Adeje council is also offering, online via www.adeje.es, a free training course in this regard.  

 

According to the councillors, it is hoped that very soon those centres that carry the Punto Violeta mark will be available through geo-localisation, making it easier for those who need assistance to find them.
