As we are in Level 4, the collective have created a video in honour the ‘patron saint of grandmothers’

The Adeje senior citizens group are today paying homage to their patron, Saint Anne, or Santa Ana.  However as the island of Tenerife are in Level 4, the tribute takes the form of a video, with a message from the parish priest, Fr. Honorio Campos.

According to the councillor in charge of the senior citizens department, Carmen Lucia Rodríguez del Toro, “This is a very important day for us, one always marked with devotion.  Unfortunately the circumstances this year do mean we cannot carry out any of the usual activities, but there have been floral tributes made to Santa Ana in the church in recent days”.

Despite the conditions in place due to the health pandemic, the Adeje senior citizens area continues with a home help service for those who are in need of such assistance. There are also online or in-person visits from physiotherapists, and therapeutic and psychological help on offer too, said the councillor.

The centre for seniors, in the basement of the Adeje Cultural Centre, remains open to the town’s older citizens, helping with administrative matters such as travel certs, registering on the padrón, etc., meaning they don’t have to attend the main public office.

The councillor also praised the older section of the Adeje population for their adherence to local restrictions during the current pandemic, saying they had set an excellent example for the rest of us to follow.
