Adeje council’s department of equality facilitated a meeting between the Tenerife Cabildo departmernt of diversity, under councillor Nauzet Gugliota González, and LGBTI associations in South Tenerife, on June 17th.  During the visit those involved also took time to visit the current exhibition in the CDTCA “Ayer y Hoy Memoria Trans de Canarias” (Today and yesterday, Canarian Trans Memories).  This is a travelling exhibition and is part of a Cabildo initiative.

Following the visit to the exhibition the authorities sat down with the various associations to put ideas regarding fuutre projects on the table, examine possible actions public bodies could take too.  Present from the Adeje side were the councillors for health and for equality, Amada Trujillo Bencomo and Desiderio Afonso Ruiz respectively.

According to the health councillor, “we are working to make the public aware of the work both the Cabildo, ourselves and the organisations are doing in this area, such as services like ‘infosex’, co-educational interventions in schools, collaborations with other associations and co-ordinating with other LGBTI groups in the borough”:

Afonso Ruiz added, “this kind of meeting is important to make the most out of the synergies between the different administrations and associations.  Experiences has shown us that any initiative is enriched and reaches more people that we might have otherwise been able to”.
