Adeje supports annual collection for Spanish cancer association

The collection is to help families with cancer and economic vulnerability

18 june 2021
The Adeje department of health under councillor Amada Trujillo Bencomo supported the annual collection by the AECC, the Spanish cancer association. The volunteers were given the institutional assistance needed to set up collection points, in particular outside the door of the Town Hall yesterday, June 17th, observing all the current safety restrictions in place.

From 10am to 2pm a group of volunteers were on hand to offer information about cancer to the public and ask them to donate what they could, with the money going to families who are dealing with cancer and are in a vulnerable situation economically.

“Working hand in hand with associations such as the AECC is fundamental to the kind of work we are also doing here in the council, in particular with those people who are in difficulties financially. They are suffering a double vulnerability, for their illness and their economic situation. We here have a permanent working relationship with the AECC and other similar associations, such as the Walk for Life foundation”.

The association’s work continued throughout all of last year, helping those with cancer and their families. “We saw that during the pandemic those with cancer had increased health, social and economic problems provoked by the crisis.  This is the time that the public can show they understand and wish to help those with cancer and to make sure there are no inequalities suffered as a result of the illness”.

Partnership with Adeje
In partnership with Adeje the AECC operates in the borough offering a range of specialised services for people with cancer, to meet psychological, social and physical needs during the oncology process, and for those who might not be under the care of public health.  During 2020 they attended to multiple cases in the borough as well as offering economic assistance in over 40 particular cases.
