Adeje has put a mobile eco-lorry on the road

This is just for residents and will accept such items as car batteries, cables, old phones, paint, branches and plant trimmings

The Adeje council’s department of municipal services in partnership with Ascan Torrabonaf, the company charged with managing recycled waste in the borough, have put a new mobile eco-lorry on the road for residents who need to get rid of objects that would not go into the normal recycling containers.  The collection service will travel around the borough to various points during the week and will accept a range of items, from car batteries to cables, paint, scrap metal, plant and tree trimmings, etc. The full list of what can be placed in the unit and more information is here: www.adeje.es

According to the councillor with responsibility for the area, Esther Rivero Vargas, the service was needed for the borough “as many domestic waste products can be dangerous, flammable, corrosive or even potentially explosive, so cause a risk for the residents and for those handling the waste if it not properly disposed of.  There are also materials that will damage the environment too if not handled correctly, metals, waste that is thrown directly down sinks, harming the water supply”, she said.

The mobile eco-lorry will also be an information and environmental education point. The places on the current routes include Adeje town centre, La Postura, Las Nieves, Las Torres, El Galeón, Los Olivos, Armeñime, La Hoya, Callao Salvaje, Playa Paraíso, Costa Adeje and Fañabé. Current time slots are published here- https://www.adeje.es/servicios-municipales/adeje-limpia/ecopunto-movil and may be changed depending on demand.

The introduction of a such a unit will meet the needs of a borough with disperse population densities. “This gives us the chance to get to everyone” commented the councillor, “and hopefully encourage greater and safer waste disposal and recycling”.

The public who are using the unit will be instructed in properly identifying and labelling different waste items and where to place them in the mobile unit.
