Tee-time for Costa Adeje

This weekend the European PGA tour comes to Tenerife

Tenerife Cabildo President Pedro Martín announced details of this weekend's Tenerife Golf Open this morning, in the presence of Manuel López, the head of the island's sport department.  The competition is taking place in Golf Costa Adeje and will be viewed on the Golf Channel, Sky Sports and Movistar Golf.

Martín told the press that up to 150 of the world's leading golfers would be taking part, and the event would "show Tenerife as a destination that is excellently situated to host sporting events of this calibre, with images of Costa Adeje beaming into over 300 million homes in over 180 countries in the coming days"  The competition runs from April 29th to May 2nd.  With over 150 golfers taking part, the competition is also bringing a direct econmic boost of over one million euros to the island.  

The president added that the Cabildo and Tenerife Tourism had been involved in plannig the Open for over a year as part of a new tourism strategy for the island.  "We have to reach all of the relevant markets to show the diversie and wide range of sporting offers we have here, and in that regard we think we are on the right path", he said.

This Open is part of the European PGA Tour, the second most important globally, and Emma Cabrera, representing the Tour, speaking on behalf of the PGA director Keith Pelley, said they were delighted to be back here, "where we received such an amazing welcome back in 2005".

Adeje's tourism councillor, Adolfo Alonso Ferrera was also present at the announcement and expressed his delight that the Tour had chosen Golf Costa Adeje for this prestigious event.
