Adeje library opens the reading room; users will need to book in advance

Capacity will be limited to 7 people and there will be two sessions, 8am to 11am and 11am to 2pm

The Adeje library, part of the department of Education under Councillor María Clavijo Maza, will reopen the reading room from next Monday June 22nd. To make this possible the library will be operating with two sessions, from 8am to 11am and 11am to 2pm. Capacity will be limited to 7 people at any one time, all users will be required to wear a mask at all times, and the area will be cleaned and disinfected after each session.

The Adeje public library opened to the public again on May 18th, in a phased manner, controlled and operating via prior appointments for people who wished to return books. Before opening the library had made the necessary changes to the centre, part of the on-going process to reintroduce the library services over a phased time.

The councillor said that “for now we are opening the reading section downstairs so that we can control capacity at all times, guaranteeing the safety of library visitors and, of course, the staff”. She underlined that “we are working on the opening of the library bit by bit, offering the services the library has always made available to the public, but it will take time”.

The library continues to prioritise those users who consult the online catalogue https://www3.gobiernodecanarias.org/bibliotecavirtual and reserve the book they want to borrow or consult in situ.  The library staff will be the only ones permitted to get the material from the stacks to bring to the library user in question.

Books that are lent will be disinfected upon their return to the library and ‘quarantined’ for 14 days.  There is a zone reserved for returns and the lending time has been increased to 30 days for all kinds of material that can be borrowed.

The public is reminded that the newspaper reading section remains closed as are the study sections, the public computers and there are currently no cultural activities taking place here either.

We recommend that users also consult online free services offered by the Canarian public libraries network-
