Adeje Town Hall, through its Departments of Culture and Education, headed by Adolfo Alonso Ferrera and Coraima Afonso Navarro respectively, is taking part, together with the University of La Laguna Department of Economics, Business and Tourism and the Vice-Rectorate for Culture and University Outreach, in a pilot initiative “Conecta Campus Sur”. This is an extracurricular training and experiential programme focused on the tourism sector.

The programme was created with the aim of connecting students with professionals in active employment and with key issues related to tourism, encouraging a practical approach to the realities of the sector. During the first semester of the current academic year, a range of activities have been carried out in order to assess interest in and reception of the initiative.

Sessions held to date include a talk on professional development and skills, given by Norma Dorta, Adeje's Head of Employment and Local Development, a presentation on entrepreneurship, the keynote lecture on the history of tourism by Rafael Dolado, President of the CIT del Sur, as well as sessions on hotel management software (PMS), with Antonio Álvarez, CEO of Evosocial Soft, and on Revenue Management, delivered by Jordi Estalella, Director of Marketing and Sales at Dreamplace Hotels & Resorts.

The programme has also addressed operational processes in travel agencies, with a presentation given by Bárbara Waldhoff Mederos, Director of Viajes Guiatur. At the session held on Tuesday, 16 December, a conference on tourism and the environment was led by Adeje environmental head, Belén de Ponte.

The activities are being held at the University of La Laguna’s southern campus, at the Adeje Cultural Centre, and also online, allowing participation by students from La Laguna as well as by other people interested in this field.
