The Alliance Française of Santa Cruz de Tenerife opened the institution’s new premises in the municipality of Adeje (Tenerife) this week in an event led by its president, Mariano Gambín, together with the director of the academic institution, Sophie González. The event was attended, among others, by the Adeje councillor for Heritage, Desiderio Afonso, and various representatives of the Centre for Tourism Initiatives (CIT) Sur, including its president, Rafael Dolado.

The premises, located at number 20 Calle Hermano Pedro and already home to academic activity, covers 170 square metres, divided into three large classrooms. It is a ground-floor premises, fully renovated to facilitate access for people with reduced mobility, and designed to offer immersive learning for students of French.

One of the new initiatives on offer is personalised courses, including at workplaces if needed, aimed at workers and professionals in the hotel and restaurant sector, so they can acquire French training directly linked to their area of work, with flexible hours or intensive courses.

“Our teaching offer allows members of the public who wish to learn French to find a course adapted to their needs, at all ages,” explained the director of the Alliance Française of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

For his part, Mariano Gambín underlined the value for the institution he chairs of having premises in Adeje, “the centre of social, cultural and tourist activity in the south, where we can offer our language-training expertise to help enhance the cultural assets of the public in general, and the tourist destination in particular”. He thanked the Town Hall and the tourism and business institutions of the south for their support.

About the Alliance Française

The Alliance Française offers training for children, adolescents and adults in small groups. Courses can be intensive, mornings or afternoons, conversation-based, and preparation courses for the official DELF and DALF accreditation (the only internationally recognised French-language certifications, awarded by the French Ministry of Education).

Training covers all levels, from A1 to C2, as well as Spanish courses for French speakers, both in-person and online. The classrooms will be equipped with the latest logistics and office-technology tools to make learning an inclusive and intuitive experience.

The aim, in addition to reaching those professional groups and members of the public who wish or need to speak French, is also to open a space for cultural activities linked to the francophone world, such as themed days, talks, film screenings, exhibitions or any other proposal that enriches the cultural life of the south.

The Alliance Française of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a non-profit cultural association recognised as being of public benefit. It forms part of the Fondation Alliance Française and is a Gold Medal recipient from the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, awarded in 2015 in recognition of more than fifty years of work promoting the French language and culture, and was awarded the 2005 Prince of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities, together with other European cultural institutions such as the Instituto Cervantes and the British Council.
