Adeje Town Hall, through Adeje Town Hall’s Department of Care for Functional Diversity, under councillor Raquel Rodríguez Alonso, will undertake a series of actions during December to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, today, 3 December. The aim is to offer spaces for information, training and awareness of different realities, strengthening access to resources and understanding the needs of persons with disabilities.

Councillor Raquel Rodríguez Alonso highlighted that “this day reminds us of the importance of continuing to work so that all people have access to resources, participation and equal opportunities. Adeje maintains a firm commitment to progressing towards a more inclusive municipality, one that can respond to the real needs of those who encounter barriers in their daily lives”.

The first event took place on the morning of Wednesday, 3 December, at 12pm, with the reading of the manifesto on the steps of the Adeje Town Hall. Political representatives, municipal staff, local residents and a group of users from the Functional Diversity Care Centre (C.A.D. Los Olivos) attended the event.

The activities for this day will take the form of free training talks open to all members of the public. The only requirement is to register in advance using the form available on the municipal website www.adeje.es. The talks will be held at Adeje’s Citizen Participation and Community Centre, located in the neighbourhood of Las Nieves.

The first talk will take place on Thursday, 4 December at 10.30am when social workers from the Canary Islands Health Service, Verónica de la Torre de la Rosa and Ana Isabel González Barrios, will offer a practical session to explain the resources, services and support available in the fields of disability and dependency, as well as access and follow-up processes. On the same day, the Department of Care for Functional Diversity will present the Municipal Strategic Plan for Disability Care.

Looking ahead to Thursday, 11 December at 11am, there will be a talk on autism. Speech therapist Aída Méndez García will introduce attendees to the reality of the autistic spectrum, addressing the evolution of the concept of autism, neurodivergence, the impact on girls and women, common myths and the role of close environments.

Finally, on Thursday, 18 December at 11am, Alberto Gutiérrez, president of Autism Friendly Club Global will lead a session on how to create more accessible and understandable spaces for autistic persons, with practical examples and guidelines to support friendlier and safer environments.

All talks and workshops will be in Spanish.
